London Historians was founded in August 2010 primarily to act as a facilitator which:
- enables all those interested in London’s history to find what they’re looking for quickly and in one place
- provides a hub for the many dozens of disparate institutions and societies and thousands of individuals, all of whom have a common interest
- supports conservation and historical research
- encourages both amateur and professional historians to meet and make new friends with like-minded enthusiasts
Belonging to London Historians is very much a shared experience. We can only be as strong as our membership. We hope you’ll join us for what we’d like to make a perpetual adventure, exploring the history of our amazing city.
The director of London Historians is Mike Paterson, who abandoned his career in the software industry to set up and run London Historians. Mike is a BA(Hons) history graduate from Royal Holloway, University of London, class of ’93. “I am grateful to many Londoners – long-standing and brand new friends alike – who have all chipped in with ideas, work and encouragement to get this off the ground. As our membership grows, I’m certain that that London Historians will be much greater than the sum of its parts. Just through doing the research to set up our web site, I’ve become hugely more knowledgeable about London’s history than I ever was. But what I look forward to the most is making new friends who share my curiosity about our city’s past. It’s a never-ending process.”
